Back To The Grind!
Welcome to Current Connections, the weekly newsletter for Lineman, by a Lineman

Welcome you bare-handing bad asses! Time for your weekly update of Life on the Line.
As you know, I’m back home from storm; now it’s just a matter of settling back in to the daily routine. I started back to work this week, and we’re scheduled 5-10’s which is a great balance in my opinion.
Funny thing at work: we were on kind of a shitty job when we left for storm, and I was kind of hoping it would get completed during the 3 weeks I was gone. Nope! Back to hand digging 8 foot holes; thank god for apprentices, am I right?
We’d love to hear how your week went—drop us a line and share your stories! But before we gear up for the weekend, let’s dive into what this issue has in store:

🌪️Storm Outlook
The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is projected to remain highly active through its end on November 30. Factors contributing to the elevated activity include unusually warm Atlantic sea surface temperatures and a possible transition to La Niña conditions, both of which favor tropical storm development. NOAA predicts 17 to 25 named storms, with 8 to 13 becoming hurricanes and 4 to 7 reaching major hurricane status (Category 3 or above)
In October and November, storm formation is expected to shift towards the western Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. Late-season storms in these areas often bring significant impacts, as favorable conditions—such as reduced wind shear and moisture from the West African monsoon—persist during this period.
Ongoing monitoring has identified potential disturbances that could develop in these regions, necessitating continued preparedness efforts
Experts caution that even a single storm can cause significant devastation. Residents in hurricane-prone areas are encouraged to stay informed, keep emergency kits ready, and monitor forecasts closely for any changes in tropical systems during these final months of the season
💡Father’s of the Trade:

H.L. Doherty, a prominent businessman and utility expert, made lasting contributions to the utility industry, which indirectly shaped the lineman profession. Doherty began his career at the Columbus Gas Company at the young age of 12, quickly rising to the role of chief engineer by his early twenties. His expertise in managing utility systems laid the foundation for his future ventures, where he focused on improving the technical and operational aspects of energy companies.
In 1910, Doherty founded the Cities Service Company, a holding entity that acquired various utilities involved in gas, electricity, and petroleum production. His efforts in consolidating utility operations emphasized efficiency and resource management, which directly impacted the infrastructure linemen worked on.
As the company expanded its reach, linemen were needed to install, maintain, and repair the growing network of power lines and gas infrastructure, ensuring the reliable delivery of energy to customers across the U.S. and Canada.
Doherty's influence also extended to training and innovation. He preferred being called "chief engineer" rather than president, highlighting his technical focus. To foster development, he established the Doherty Energy Research Laboratory, where engineers and geologists were trained.
These initiatives helped professionalize the workforce, including linemen, by promoting specialized skills and best practices essential to maintaining the complex utility infrastructure. His emphasis on innovation and operational excellence helped lay the groundwork for modern utility management and the lineman field as we know it today.

JNCTN is a company specializing in digital identity and credential management. Their platform helps organizations transition from paper-based verification processes to a digital system, allowing for secure and efficient management of employee credentials.
JNCTN's solutions are used across various industries to ensure that the right people with the right qualifications are in the right locations, streamlining compliance, onboarding, and credential verification. The platform also offers features like automated notifications, real-time monitoring, and easy integration with existing systems.
The plan is for them to be a partnership with the man power. There’s an app in development, being built with the Lineman in mind. The IBEW isn’t partnered up yet, but hopefully soon.
It’s important to remember that we all started somewhere
